TWO PEOPLE have been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a three-year-old girl.

Mariam Alam died in hospital on November 30 last year after paramedics were called to her home in Fisher Road, Foleshill.

A post-mortem revealed she died as a result of a head injury.

In January a 34-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were both arrested and released on bail.

On Thursday morning, a 35-year-old man and 32-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in police custody.

Detectives said a key aspect of the investigation was an anonymous call by a member of the public on January 9, who provided information relating to Mariam's death.

Detective Inspector Chris Hanson, appealed for that person to come forward.

"This is clearly a very sensitive case and our investigation is a complex one.

"We are following up a number of lines of enquiry but today I am directly appealing to the person who made the call to us to please get back in touch.

"I believe this person, or indeed anyone else in the community, could hold crucial information which would assist this inquiry.

"Any incident where a child's life is lost in suspicious circumstances understandably causes concern in the community and we will continue with this investigation until we have been able to full establish how and why Mariam died."

Anyone with information should call Coventry Public Protection Unit on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
