Raymond McEnery, 55, and Dana Webb, 34, have been jailed for the murder of Peter Wilson. (s)
THE FAMILY of a murdered city man have paid tribute to him after his killers were put behind bars.
Peter Wilson was stabbed and left to die at his home in Honiley Court, Coundon in 2010 by Raymond McEnery, 55, and Dana Webb, 34.
The pair, both from Binswood Close, Wood End, were sentenced to 12 years in prison at Coventry Crown Court on Thursday (February 2).
The trial has been fraught with delays since they were arrested back in July 2010 and saw two re-trials after new information came to light.
Mr Wilson, 47, had spent 16 years service in the Royal Air Force.
His family paid tribute to him after the sentence: "Peter Wilson was a good man. He was loved by his family and friends and always had a way of making the day bright with a crazy joke or smile.
"He was a source of strength to us all and showed a resilience which would astound you.
"He had a large group of friends and family who he cherished and who cherished him.
"He was taken by a callous and cruel act - stabbed in the back and left to die on his own with no-one to comfort him in his dying moments.
"This vision will haunt all who knew Peter - hopefully including the people who committed this horrible and heinous crime. The same people who have shown no remorse for the taking of his life."
Detective Inspector Martin Slevin, who headed the investigation, said Webb and McEnery had shown no remorse for their actions and had lied their way through police interviews in an attempt to cover-up their actions.
"Only when faced with the weight of evidence did they then admit their involvement in Peter's death but have attempted to defend their actions throughout the court process," he said.
"Their actions were cowardly and the fact the jury chose to disbelieve their story reflects this.
"West Midlands Police wish to thank the local community of Wood End for their support throughout this investigation, many of whom gave vital evidence during the trial.
"In addition Peter's family have had to endure the trauma of two trails during the 18 months since his death and throughout have remained dignified and fully supportive of the judicial process. Our thoughts are with them today and wish that today's verdicts bring them closure and peace."
