Snowboarder learns from Winter Youth Olympic experience

By Steve Carpenter 25/01 Updated: 27/01 11:10

BRITAIN's sole snowboarder Lewis Courtier-Jones said he would learn from his performances at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Kuhtai.

The 16-year-old came 14th in the half-pipe event earlier this month and followed it up with an impressive performance in the slopestyle event.

Lewis looked in good form during qualification but weather conditions worsened in the final and he was unable to land all of his jumps to finish in 16th position with a score of 39.50.

But the youngster was still happy to have been given the opportunity on such a big stage.

"I was really pleased to put a good run down to make the final," Lewis.

"I had some really good runs in practise but the final was not my best. The weather and the conditions made it really difficult to land and I struggled bit.

"Overall it’s been really great, amazing. My ambition now is to train hard to make the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic team and do my best there."

Reflecting on the Games, Team GB's Sir Clive Woodward said: "The Winter Youth Olympic Games have provided a fantastic learning experience for Team GB’s 24 athletes.

"Over the last nine days they have competed with great spirit, determination and talent to achieve their personal best.

"I have no doubt every single athlete, whether in victory or defeat, has gained a great deal from their unique Youth Olympic experience."
