Saving our City is an uphill struggle

This week's Fan's View column has been sent in by Steve Coyne, a Sky Blues supporter for 49 seasons...

"Good luck to the Save Our City Campaign. They will certainly need it given the finances involved in running a football club these days.

"Why is it our business community have failed to find a buyer for the club?

"Wolves, Stoke and Leicester - to name three smaller Midlands cities - have all managed to attract wealthy buyers.

"I'm sure Sisu by now realise they are finished as we rapidly head for League One. Whether they will leave us in administration remains to be seen. One thing is apparent however - the Ricoh Arena business model appears to be unsustainable.

"So what is the answer? Nothing less than a complete rebuilding of the club.

"Forget about buying the Ricoh. In the absence of a smaller and more suitable stadium to move into (Highfield Road anyone?) it seems we are stuck with it.

"Finally, a potshot at the real villains in all this. Step forward the Premier League, Sky Television and yes - the players themselves.

"The Premier League and Sky brought us unparallelled greed with vast amounts of money disappearing into the pockets of the large clubs and the top players.

"It seems clubs like the City can no longer afford players of Championship standard even. Unless this situation changes - perhaps with a wages cap on all clubs - I fear saving our City will be an uphill struggle."
