Domish injury gives Thompson selection dilema

By Steve Carpenter 19/01 Updated: 26/01 10:19

BLAZE star Jerramie Domish will be out of action until the end of the season after it was revealed he requires knee surgery on an injury sustained earlier in the season.

The American signed for the club last summer from Elite League champions Sheffield Steelers and has been playing with the injury throughout the festive period.

But the 32-year-old has now been advised that an operation is necessary which has left coach Paul Thompson with just four fit defenceman with Great Britain junior James Griffin not ready to return following concussion.

"We are not sure when the operation will be just yet but Jerramie will not be playing until then," Thompson revealed.

"He has been playing with it for a while but has been told by the surgeon he risks making it worse and needs the op now.

"With rehab, we are looking to have Domish back in the line-up for the end of the league season and the play-offs.

"It is a blow. It is the time of the year when I am looking to add and strengthen the team but it also means everyone will need to pull together.

"We have also had a little bit of a setback with Griff. He started to feel groggy after a light skate the other day.

"We will continue to monitor him and look after him and we certainly won’t be rushing him back.

"With concussion you cannot take any risks and we will listen to the medical staff and take their advice as to when he is ready."
